🏭 Industry 4.0: The Fourth Industrial Revolution
Industry 4.0 is the current phase of industrial transformation, characterized by the fusion of the physical world of manufacturing with the digital world of information technology. It represents a shift towards building smart, interconnected, and highly flexible factories (or "smart factories") where machines, systems, and products constantly communicate and make autonomous decisions.
Decentralized Decisions: Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) should be able to make basic, autonomous decisions in real-time, responding to changing conditions (e.g., a machine adjusting its settings based on material availability). Only exceptions, or higher-level tasks, are passed up to human operators.
